Town Hall Recap

We heard updates from Dr. Eiman about the second astronaut documentary project along with updates from Phil about the lunar time card project, alongside some other initiatives like the MoonDAO lunar mission and bounty (more on that in a moment).

Join us this Thursday for a talk from special guest Michael Castle-Miller who will be discussing his innovative Lunar Development Cooperative and how it can help facilitate lunar development and cooperation amongst various entities. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

Moon Mission and Bounty

Last week, MoonDAO and LifeShip launched the Memes to the Moon mission aboard Firefly’s Blue Ghost lunar lander. Now en route to the Moon's Mare Crisium, the mission carries the LifeShip Pyramid—a time capsule filled with seeds, artwork, and messages, alongside a Nickel NanoFiche holding the private key to an Ethereum wallet.

This digital treasure is part of a groundbreaking lunar bounty, designed to incentivize future explorers to retrieve the Pyramid and unlock its contents. The mission highlights partnerships with blockchain communities that are part of the Meme World Order, including Mr. Miggles, Own The Doge, Pudgy Penguins, ElonRWA and more, blending internet culture with humanity’s aspirations for space exploration.

Starship Launch

The MoonDAO team was on the ground near Starbase, Texas this past week for the latest launch, including a few members of the community. We got together as a group at Isla Blanca Park to watch the seventh flight test and second catch attempt (watch our reactions in the background of the Rocket Future livestream). The wider community of space enthusiasts was also on hand to witness this incredible moment, which made it an ideal opportunity to connect and talk about space.

The seventh Starship test flight achieved significant milestones despite ending in an explosion. The company successfully caught its Super Heavy booster for the second time using its Mechazilla tower system, a crucial step toward achieving Starship’s reusability.

However, about eight minutes into flight, the upper stage of the rocket experienced a catastrophic failure or RUD, likely caused by a fuel leak and resulting fire, forcing aircraft diversions and prompting an FAA mishap investigation.

SpaceX is already preparing for its next launch and has rolled out the S34 Ship for testing and work at Massey's test site. Future objectives include catching Starship mid-flight, in-orbit propellant transfer, and preparing for a lunar mission ahead of NASA’s Artemis III.

New Glenn

Blue Origin successfully launched its New Glenn rocket for the first time on January 16, 2025, marking a significant milestone for the company. The rocket's upper stage reached orbit during the NG-1 test flight, while its reusable first stage attempted but narrowly missed a ship landing in the Atlantic. This debut highlights the rocket's capabilities, including lifting 50 tons to low Earth orbit and potential reuse for at least 25 missions.

Carrying a test version of Blue Origin’s Blue Ring spacecraft, the mission collected crucial data for developing a versatile logistics platform for defense and commercial use. Despite initial delays, this launch cements New Glenn's role in advancing Blue Origin’s spaceflight ambitions and competing with industry leaders like SpaceX.
