Last week's town hall was optional and informal due to the Fourth of July holiday in the United States, but this week's town hall on the 11th is one of our most important as we wrap up the second quarter and contributors gather to present final reports and share outcomes to the MoonDAO community.
Q2 Final Reports
Yesterday was the deadline for project contributors to submit final reports and for members of the community to have added their contributions to the community-wide Coordinape circle. While the number of projects completed was smaller than we've seen in past quarters, there were some pretty ambitious and large-scale projects that will have a significant impact on MoonDAO in the months to come. Stay tuned, there are some really exciting things on the horizon!
Read the final reports for this quarter:
Following the final presentations after this week's Town Hall, voting will open soon thereafter to members of the MoonDAO community to determine the final outcome of any retroactive rewards.

Quinn Morley writes: "Hey everyone! I'm a Mechanical Engineer, and I push space tech forward by working on crazy ideas. Recently a few of those ideas have brought me closer to lunar mining and manufacturing projects. I'm still a Mars guy at heart, but I see resource extraction on the Moon and in the asteroid belt as an exciting step in creating a future Mars/Asteroid-Belt economy. Excited to be here, and I'm looking forward to spending some time in the ideation forum!"
Letβs give a friendly MoonDAO welcome as they join our community!

Bite-Sized Space News
CHAPEA Crew Emerges
Four volunteers from NASA's Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA) mission emerged after spending over a year in a 1,700-square-foot Mars simulator at NASAβs Johnson Space Center in Houston. The crew, consisting of Kelly Haston, Anca Selariu, Ross Brockwell, and Nathan Jones, lived in the 3D-printed habitat from June 25, 2023, to simulate Martian living conditions, including growing vegetables, maintaining equipment, and experiencing 22-minute communication delays with Earth. This 378-day mission was the first of three planned by NASA to study human adaptation to Mars, with subsequent missions scheduled for 2025 and 2026.
Ariane 6 Inaugural Launch
Earlier today, Europe's Ariane 6 rocket has successfully launched for the first time from Kourou, French Guiana, marking a significant milestone for European space capabilities. This debut comes after a year-long gap since the retirement of the Ariane 5, which left Europe reliant on foreign rockets like SpaceX's Falcon 9.
In development since 2014 and delayed by technical issues and the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ariane 6 is expected to be a more cost-effective solution, offering about half the price per launch compared to its predecessor. The rocket, available in two variants, A62 and A64, is capable of carrying significant payloads to low Earth orbit. Its first mission carried nine cubesats, including NASA's CURIE experiment, aimed at studying solar radio waves. The rocket's design, though not reusable, aligns with ESA's current launch needs and economic considerations.
Kazakhstan Joins ILRS
Kazakhstan has signed a memorandum of cooperation on the China-led International Lunar Research Station (ILRS) and will explore the commercial use of each otherβs spaceports. This agreement, part of a series of agreements signed during Chinese President Xi Jinpingβs recent visit to Kazakhstan, strengthens Chinaβs lunar exploration efforts. The Baikonur cosmodrome, located in Kazakhstan and leased to Russia until 2050, plays a key role in this context. Kazakhstan, sharing a border with China, is the 12th country to join the ILRS. Both nations aim to enhance cooperation in the peaceful use of outer space and promote mutually beneficial lunar and deep space exploration. The ILRS, led by China, operates parallel to NASAβs Artemis Program, with both countries engaged in diplomatic efforts to attract partners; the U.S. has secured 42 signatories for the Artemis Accords, including Armenia most recently.
