MoonDAO Updates

Town Hall Recap

You can join online every Thursday at 3pm Eastern time in

Last week’s Town Hall didn’t see any new proposals put forward, but did feature round table updates about from the ongoing projects underway (we’ve got some really cool changes coming soon to the MoonDAO website, stay tuned!), including DeSci research papers, the recent passage of the Skyline Digital proposal, second astronaut outreach and media, and Nance governance improvements to the MoonDAO site. The meeting wrapped up with an open floor where we discussed the idea of the undergrad internship proposal, a separate student-led initiative, and some other ideas that are floating around.

The technocrat writes: “Made it through the web dapp join MoonDAO steps. Joining has been on my todo list for a while after listening in on a couple twitter spaces. My professional work is in biomedicine, but I dream of maintaining a farm on my family's spaceship one day. Even if technology doesn't advance quickly enough for me to live that future, I'd be happy knowing I setup a future that makes that likely for future humans. Decentralization and a focus on technology advancement seem like the best ways to increase the odds of that future.”

Bite-Sized Space News

Is this Week, the Week?

NASA has extended the review period for Boeing's CST-100 Starliner, now tentatively targeting a June 1 launch, almost a month after the original May 6 attempt was scrubbed due to a faulty valve on the United Launch Alliance (ULA) rocket's upper stage. Additionally, a helium leak in the Starliner’s propulsion system prompted further delays. The upcoming "Delta-Agency Flight Test Readiness Review" will determine if these issues have been sufficiently resolved to proceed with the mission and launch.

If approved, NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams will embark on an eight-day mission to the International Space Station to validate the Starliner's performance with human passengers. The mission aims to establish Boeing alongside SpaceX as a U.S.-based ISS ferry service provider. Wilmore and Williams remain in quarantine, training in simulators, and will head to Kennedy Space Center after the review if the mission is cleared for launch.

Starship Date Set

SpaceX has tentatively scheduled its next Starship integrated test flight for June 5, aiming to demonstrate the ability to return both stages of the vehicle intact. This fourth test, pending an updated FAA license, will launch Booster 11 with Ship 29 from the Starbase site in South Texas. The primary objectives are to execute a landing burn and soft splashdown of the Super Heavy booster in the Gulf of Mexico and achieve a controlled reentry of the Starship. Unlike previous tests, this flight will not include in-flight experiments but will focus on demonstrating reusability and refining landing techniques.

The company has implemented several upgrades based on lessons from the March test flight, including enhancements to thruster hardware and additional filtration capabilities in the oxygen tanks to prevent engine failures. SpaceX also plans to jettison the hot-staging ring after the boostback burn to reduce booster mass. These improvements aim to address past issues and move closer to SpaceX's goal of rapid reusability for Starship vehicles.

MoonDAO's Flag in Space MoonDAO's flag has officially flown in space for the very first time—albeit a miniature version! Eiman carried a small, pocket-sized MoonDAO flag aboard the NS-26 launch and brought it out at apogee. We’ve been gradually releasing highlights from Eiman's incredible journey as MoonDAO’s second astronaut. The day after his flight, we gathered in El Paso for his first post-flight interview, capturing his thoughts and emotions as his lifelong dream of space travel came...

We Did It, MoonDAO! Over two years of relentless passion, determination, and unwavering belief in the power of our community. And now, we’re here to celebrate something monumental—we’ve sent our SECOND individual to SPACE! On August 29th, Dr. Eiman Jahangir, a brilliant cardiologist and lifelong space enthusiast, blasted off on Blue Origin's New Shepard. Among billions of people on Earth, only about 700 can claim they've journeyed to space—and Dr. Jahangir is now one of them, thanks to the...
