Community Circle and Quarterly Rewards
Published over 1 year ago • 5 min read
During last week's town hall, we covered some important updates surrounding the end-of-quarter procedures as well as general project updates.
As we approach the end of Q2, it will soon be time for the MoonDAO community to review final reports and project deliverables completed over the past three months and determine the rewards given to each project (and their contributors) based on the impact and deliverables.
Important Note: To accommodate the Independence Day celebrations on July 4th, we will be moving next week's town hall and Q2 project presentations to Wednesday, July 3rd, at 12PM Pacific Time, and final reports must be submitted by Monday, July 1st, at 5PM Pacific. Minor changes can be made up until the presentation time.
Final reports will be presented on July 3rd at 12PM Pacific, followed by a 24-hour period to submit senate recommendations, after which we will open a Snapshot vote for MoonDAO members to determine the final distribution.
Remember: MoonDAO has a community-wide gift giving circle where you can earn financial and governance rewards for your help growing MoonDAO. Those contributions can be wide-ranging and include anything that isn't part of a formal project. Be sure to submit your contributions this week!

Dr. Eiman on Astro Eliza Episode
Dr. Eiman Jahangir, MoonDAO's second astronaut set to fly aboard a future Blue Origin New Shepard rocket launch, was a guest on the Astro Eliza YouTube channel where they delved into his work as a cardiologist and what it's been like to learn that he's going to go to space.
In the past, Astro Eliza has featured a few MoonDAO contributors as well, including our founder Pablo Moncada. Be sure to subscribe and check out her archived episodes!
Ooonskiii writes: "Hi, I have always grown up curious about space, and different planets. Mars has interested me the most, being a planet that humans can travel to. I hope to join the air force after Highschool, go to college for mechanical engineering, and hopefully one day work for NASA or even enter the astronaut program for the hopes of being able to travel in space"
Let’s give a friendly MoonDAO welcome as they join our community!
NASA has postponed the return of Boeing's Starliner spacecraft from June 26 to an unspecified date in July due to unresolved technical issues. The decision followed extensive meetings involving senior NASA leaders who reviewed data on the spacecraft's performance, particularly focusing on five helium system leaks and the failure of reaction-control system thrusters. Initially planned to return on June 14, the Starliner, which launched on June 5, has had multiple return attempts waved off for additional data review. While the vehicle has a 45-day stay limit at the ISS, NASA is using the extra time to conduct spacewalks and gather more performance data. While NASA officials have assured that Starliner is safe for an emergency return, they continue to delay its normal return to ensure all contingencies are addressed.
Tim Dodd, the Everyday Astronaut, recently published an inside look and tour with Elon Musk of the new Starfactory facility at Starbase, Texas. The hour-long interview is peppered with tons of interesting insights about the Starship program and offers glimpses of places not previously seen by the public. It's definitely worth the watch!
NASA and NOAA are preparing to launch the GOES-U weather satellite, the fourth and final satellite in NOAA's GOES-R Series, on June 25 from Kennedy Space Center using a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. The GOES-U satellite will enhance weather forecasting and warning capabilities, and improve space weather monitoring with a new compact coronagraph instrument. The GOES program, which began in 1975, has been vital for meteorological and environmental monitoring, providing real-time data on weather conditions, lightning activity, and solar events. The upcoming launch, following a successful Flight Readiness Review on June 20, marks the first time a GOES satellite will be launched on a Falcon Heavy rocket.
On board GOES-U are seven advanced instruments, including the new Compact Coronagraph-1. This instrument, part of NOAA’s Space Weather Follow On Program, will monitor the Sun’s corona to detect large plasma explosions that can trigger geomagnetic solar storms. These storms pose significant risks to satellites, crewed space missions, and various Earth-based infrastructures. The suite of instruments on GOES-U will provide critical data for real-time weather and space weather forecasting, further enhancing our ability to predict and respond to environmental hazards.
